HIAS Pennsylvania is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that provides legal and social services to low income immigrants and refugees in the Philadelphia area. With an annual budget of $1.4 million, 70% is grant funded through private and government grants, including federal support from the Department of Justice, state and federal pass through grants from the Pennsylvania Refugee Program, and local government grants. Our legal services program provides free or low-cost legal assistance to help low-income residents in our region navigate the complex U.S. immigration system. The Refugee Resettlement Program provides a full range of supportive services for arriving refugee families, including housing assistance, employment and education support, community integration and orientation, comprehensive health support services, and intensive case management.
Through the Refugee Resettlement Program, HIAS Pennsylvania partners with PENN Center for Primary Care to coordinate a refugee health clinic for adult refugees. HIAS Pennsylvania also coordinates referrals and serves as the clinic liaison for the refugee clinic at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Our Refugee Health Coordinator & Case Manager leads our team of case aides in ensuring that all refugees resettled through our organization receive a comprehensive health screening within 30 days after arrival. The Coordinator also oversees the provision of a culturally and linguistically appropriate health orientation and intensive case management for escorting to follow-up and subspecialist appointments, prescription education, and on-going medical care.
